Acceptable Use Policy

This policy sets out what you may and may not do with PropMap. It forms part of our Terms of Service and applies to everyone using the Service, on every plan, including the free one.

The short version: PropMap is a tool for looking up properties one at a time in the course of real work. It is not a bulk data source, and it is not a way to find out about people.

1. Use it for real work

You may use PropMap for property research, listing preparation, valuations, development and planning work, farm and land assessment, client presentations, and anything else of that kind — for yourself, your firm, or your clients.

Reports and exports you generate are yours to send to clients and colleagues. You may put your own branding on them. That is what the export feature is for.

2. Do not extract the dataset

The cadastre is public, but the version behind PropMap is our infrastructure, and a small number of automated clients can degrade the Service for everyone else. You may not:

scrape, crawl, or systematically download parcels, boundaries or imagery, whether by script, headless browser, or by driving the interface automatically;
run the Service through a proxy, bot, or integration that issues requests faster or in greater volume than a person working normally would;
rebuild, mirror or resell the dataset, or make it available as a feed, API or dataset of your own;
share one account across a team, or pass your login to anyone else — Agency plans exist for teams, with a seat per person.

If you have a genuine bulk or integration need, ask us. We would rather build you something that works than throttle you. Email hello@propmap.co.za.

3. Do not use it to profile people

PropMap deliberately carries no owner names and no deeds information — cadastral identity only: boundaries, extent, and the Surveyor-General code. That is a design decision, and it is not to be worked around.

You may not use the Service, alone or combined with other sources, to:

identify, locate, profile or monitor an individual, or build a list of people by where they live;
support stalking, harassment, intimidation, or any attempt to gain physical access to a property you have no right to enter;
target anyone on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic protected under South African law;
generate unsolicited direct marketing to occupants of properties you have looked up, in breach of POPIA or the Consumer Protection Act.

If you upload or import your own data — a KML of your listings, a client file, a set of pins — you remain the responsible party for it under POPIA. Only bring in information you are entitled to hold, and do not upload other people's personal information to the Service.

4. Represent the data honestly

Boundaries shown in PropMap are the registered cadastral figure published by the Chief Surveyor-General. They are indicative, they can be out of date, and they are not a survey. Satellite imagery is dated third-party capture; a year appears only where the provider actually flew it.

When you pass a report, a time-lapse or a screenshot to a client or into an advertisement, you may not:

present it as a survey, a survey diagram, or as having legal standing it does not have;
state or imply an accuracy PropMap does not claim (for example, "surveyed", "certified", or a precision in centimetres);
edit or crop an export so that it misstates extent, boundary position, or the date of the imagery;
remove the data-source and disclaimer attributions from an exported report.

Before anyone relies on a boundary for a transaction, a build, or a dispute, it must be confirmed by a qualified land surveyor.

5. Do not attack or abuse the Service

No attempting to gain unauthorised access to accounts, data or infrastructure, and no probing, scanning or load-testing without our written permission.
No reverse-engineering, no circumventing plan limits, export counts or payment, and no reselling access.
No uploading malware, or content that is unlawful, defamatory, or infringes someone else's rights.
No impersonating PropMap, 1010 Collective, or another user, and no using our name or marks to suggest an endorsement you do not have.

Found a security problem? Tell us at hello@propmap.co.za before telling anyone else, and give us a reasonable window to fix it. We will not pursue anyone who reports in good faith and does not access or retain other people's data.

6. Automated access

Public share pages and example pages may be crawled by ordinary search-engine bots that respect robots.txt. Everything behind sign-in is for people, not programs. We rate-limit, and we may block a client that ignores those limits.

7. What happens if you breach this policy

Depending on what has happened, we may: rate-limit or throttle your account; suspend it; terminate it; remove content; or, where the law requires it, report the matter. We will normally contact you first — but not where doing so would risk harm to someone, to other users, or to the Service.

Termination for breach does not entitle you to a refund of fees already paid.

8. Reporting misuse

If you believe someone is using PropMap in breach of this policy — or that something on a public share page should not be there — email hello@propmap.co.za with the link and what the problem is. We read everything sent there.

9. Changes

We may update this policy as the Service changes or as the law does. The updated version is posted here with a new "last updated" date; continued use means you accept it.
